Britain says Iran has conducted covert tests of ballistic missiles and rocket launchers, including testing missiles capable of delivering a nuclear payload.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague told the House of Commons on June 29 that the tests were in clear contravention of UN resolutions.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast denied that his country had tested a missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

Iran says it test-fired surface-to-surface missiles on June 28 with a maximum range of 2,000 kilometers as part of a 10-day military exercise.

The Persian Gulf country is at loggerheads with the West over its nuclear program. The United States and its allies insist it is aimed at developing atomic weapons -- a charge Iran rejects.
