Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Bulgarian border policeman who was shot and killed while on patrol on the country's border with Turkey. Bulgarian authorities described the case as unprecedented and announced they would take "uncompromising measures" to combat illegal migration. The chief secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Petar Todorov, identified the officer as Sergeant Petar Bachvarov of the Border Police. The Interior Ministry said earlier that the shooting took place on November 7 amid an influx of people trying to cross into the European Union country.
