Former Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq has been confirmed as a presidential candidate.
Egypt's election commission has released a final list of 13 candidates eligible to run in next month's presidential election.

The list includes Ahmed Shafiq, the last prime minister to serve under ousted leader Hosni Mubarak. Shafiq had been disqualified but then reinstated this week.

The list also includes the former head of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, and two Islamists, Mohamed Morsi, the candidate of the Muslim Brotherhood, and Abdel Moneim Abol Fotouh, a former Brotherhood member who is trying to attract broader support.

The election is set for May 23 and 24, with a runoff scheduled in June for the top two candidates. No one is expected to win more than 50 percent of the votes in the first round.
