Police in Bangladesh say a cricket umpire is being sought for questioning after he allegedly killed a teenage spectator in a dispute over a contested decision.

The 15-year-old cricket fan, Nazrul Islam, ran onto the pitch during an amateur game in Bangladesh's remote northern district of Kishoreganj and started an argument with the umpire, accusing him of bias.

Witnesses say the umpire took one of the players' bats and hit the boy in the head.

Islam showed no serious injury from the blow during the game on January 27 but suffered internal bleeding overnight and died at a hospital the next day.

Police say the umpire has gone into hiding.
