Three blasts have hit churches in the northern Nigerian state of Kaduna.

According to a Nigerian Red Cross official, at least two people were killed and 48 were wounded in bomb attacks on two churches in a northern Nigerian city on June 17.

The AP news agency says 12 people were killed.

Two explosions rocked churches in the central town of Zaria within minutes of each other.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but the Islamist sect Boko Haram has often attacked church services in Nigeria, which is split roughly evenly between Christians and Muslims.

Islamist militants also attacked two churches in Nigeria June 10, spraying the congregation of one with bullets and killing at least one person.

In the other attack, they blew up a car in a suicide bombing, wounding 41.
