Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has joined other world leaders in condemning the attack that killed 12 people at the offices of satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo in Paris.
Ghani said on January 8 that the "killing of defenseless people and civilians is a heinous act of terrorism, and there is no justification for this brutal act."
In a statement, he offered his sympathy to France.
He said that "terrorism is a common threat for the region and the world" and called for joint efforts to fight it.
Ghani was inagurated in September.
Afghanistan has faced persistent attacks from Islamist Taliban militants following the formal end of a NATO-led combat mission at the end of last year.
U.S.-led forces entered Afghanistan in 2001, after the September 11 attacks in the United States, and ousted the Taliban from power.
