Death Of Ex-Georgian Envoy To Russia Being Investigated

A team of investigators from Georgia's Prosecutor-General's Office and the Interior Ministry is investigating the death of the former ambassador to Russia, Erosi Kitsmarishvili.

Kitsmarishvili, a former owner of Rustavi 2 TV, was found dead in his car in his garage in Tbilisi on July 15 with a single gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators say a firearm from which the shot was "probably" fired was found at the scene.

The Prosecutor-General's office said the gun had been registered by Kitsmarishvili earlier on the same day.

Investigators say Kitsmarishvili likely committed suicide but that other leads are being considered.

Kitsmarishvili, 49, was Georgia's ambassador to Russia in 2008. In 2004, he led Georgia's Trade and Industry Chamber.
