ZUGDIDI -- Hundreds of supporters of the Georgian Dream political coalition have held a protest in Georgia's western city of Zugdidi, demanding a new election for their parliamentary district.

The protesters say their candidate, Irakly Alasania, was robbed of victory because of election fraud.

They allege that Roland Alakhaya, who represents the United National Movement party of President Mikheil Saakashvili, did not really win the vote.

The protesters ignored a call on October 4 by the leader of the Georgian Dream coalition, Bidzina Ivanishvili, to stop all protest actions and persevered with staging their demonstration on the same day.

With nearly all ballots counted from parliamentary elections on October 1, the Central Election Commission says Georgian Dream is projected to have around 82 seats in the 150-seat parliament.

Saakashvili's United National Movement would have 68.
