TBILISI -- Georgian lawmakers have approved Nino Kadagidze as the new head of the country's Supreme Court.
Kadagidze's candidacy was supported by all 82 lawmakers present at the parliamentary session on March 17. Opposition parties did not take part in the session.
The High Council of Justice officially proposed Kadagidze to the post on March 11.
The position had been vacant since August, when Kadagidze's predecessor, Nino Gvenetadze, resigned for what she described as health issues.
Kadagidze became a member of the Supreme Court in December.
Before rising to become the Supreme Court's chairwoman, Kadagidze served as a deputy chairwoman of the court and headed the Chamber of Administrative Affairs.
