Haqqanis To Follow Taliban On Afghan Peace

The leader of one of the most feared insurgent groups in Afghanistan says it would take part in peace talks with the Kabul government and United States only if the Taliban did.

Sirajuddin, the leader of the Haqqani network, made the remark in an interview with Reuters.

Washington has repeatedly pressed Pakistan to go after the Haqqani network it believes is based in the North Waziristan tribal region.

However, Sirajuddin told Reuters the Haqqani group no longer has sanctuaries in Pakistan, and instead felt secure inside Afghanistan.
