Iran's parliament has approved two ministerial nominees proposed by President Hassan Rohani but rejected a third.

Lawmakers rejected Reza Salehi Amiri, whom Rohani nominated as sports and youth minister.

The parliament, dominated by conservatives, approved Ali Asghar Fani for education minister and Reza Faraji Dana for the science, research, and technology portfolio.

Lawmakers said Amiri, a close ally of the president, lacked experience, mismanaged other positions he served in, and had a role in unrest following former President Mahmud Ahmadinejad’s disputed reelection in 2009.

Amiri, who was a member of Rohani's presidential campaign, has denied the allegations.

Rohani will have to propose a new nominee for the post in two weeks.

On August 15, parliament rejected three of the 18 candidates proposed by Rohani.
