Iranian media report that a protest over a movie deemed insulting to Islam would take place in Tehran in front of the Swiss Embassy, which represents U.S. diplomatic interests in the Islamic republic.
The demonstration was reportedly called by the Student Islamic Society, a hard-line group active in Iran's universities that has held anti-Western rallies in the past.
The group has called on all Iranians to take part in the protest and condemn what it described as " insulting action by the Americans against Muslim holy figures."
Iran's Foreign Ministry on September 12 called the amateur production "repulsive" and said the U.S. government's "silence" encouraged such offenses to Islam.
The film, which sparked a deadly protest in Libya on September 11 in which the U.S. ambassador was killed, ridicules the Prophet Muhammad.
