Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad has reportedly been denied permission to visit Tehran’s notorious Evin prison.

Iranian news agencies reported on October 21 that Ahmadinejad was seeking to visit presidential aide Ali Akbar Javanfekr, who is serving a six-month term for publishing an "indecent" article and insulting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The Iranian judiciary rejected Ahmadinejad's request, saying the president should be facing "major issues" like the economic crisis instead of "visiting a prison."

Ahmadinejad's influence has reportedly been on the wane since he clashed publicly with Khamenei last year when the supreme leader reinstated an intelligence chief that Ahmadinejad had dismissed.

Conservatives in parliament have accused the president of mishandling the country's economy, including the latest crisis which has seen Iran's currency lose much of its value.
