Iranian officials have denounced a report by the United Nations' nuclear watchdog accusing Tehran of intensifying its uranium-enrichment activities.

Lawmaker Kazem Jalali told the ISNA news agency that publishing the report while Tehran hosted the Nonaligned Movement meeting this week "does not mean anything other than it was a political move."

Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi was quoted as rejecting an allegation in the report that Tehran was frustrating UN inspections at the Parchin military site by apparently scrubbing it clean of indications of nuclear work.

The report by the International Atomic Energy Agency said the Islamic republic was rapidly increasing the enrichment capacity of its deep underground Fordow site.

Iran denies Western allegations of trying to build nuclear weapons under the cover of its civilian nuclear program.
