The head of Iran's judiciary has rejected demands to arrest and execute the country's two main opposition leaders.
Government supporters, legislators, and members of several clerical circles demanded the arrest and execution of Mir Hossein Musavi and Mehdi Karrubi after opposition protests on February 14.
Judiciary chief Sadeq Larijani said his department will look into the case, but that the investigation should be done "within the law."
Mussavi and Karrubi called on supporters to hold the rally in solidarity with antigovernment Egyptian demonstrators. The government banned the rally, but tens of thousands of opposition supporters took part anyway.
The authorities have called for a "day of hatred" against the opposition on February 18.
