Deadly Attack Targets Iraq Election Rally


At least 22 people have been killed in an attack on an open-air election campaign rally north of Baghdad.

According to the Reuters news agency, police and hospital workers said the attack began when a grenade was thrown into the meeting. A suicide bomber then blew himself up.

Supporters of Muthanna Ahmed Abdulwahid, a Sunni Arab candidate for the Azimun Ala al-Bina (Determined to Build) party, was holding the gathering.

The attack on the meeting in the restive city of Baquba comes two weeks before provincial polls.

Dozens more were wounded.
