Air-raid sirens sounded in northern Israel and explosions were heard as the country's Iron Dome air-defense system shot down missiles fired from Lebanon early on August 25. The Iran-backed Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the missile and drone attacks. Even before the rockets were launched, Israel announced strikes on Hezbollah's rocket launchers, saying it had discovered the group's plan to attack. Smoke was seen shortly after dawn as Israeli fighter jets bombed sites in southern Lebanon. Israel's military had warned civilians in the area to avoid locations where Hezbollah operates.
