Demonstrators In Bishkek Protest Israeli Military Operation In Gaza

Activists in Kyrgyzstan's capital, Bishkek, have protested against Israel's ongoing military operation in Gaza strip.

About 200 people gathered in Bishkek's Gorky Park on July 18 for an action they called "Muslims Are Brothers."

The protesters included Kyrgyzstan's former Grand Mufti Chubak Hajji Jalilov, former Ombudsman Tursunbai Bakir-Uulu, and activist Myktybek Arstanbek.

Israel launched ground operations in Gaza on July 17 after nearly two weeks of air and naval strikes.

Israeli officials say they are trying to stop rocket attacks on Israel from Gaza, which is governed by the political wing of the militant Hamas movement.

Israeli officials said on July 18 that at least 11 Palestinians and one Israeli soldier had been killed since the ground operations began.
