Libyan Woman At Center Of Rape Case Arrives In Romania

A Libyan woman who says she was gang-raped by Muammar Qaddafi's troops has arrived at a refugee center in Romania.

Eman al-Obaidi, 29, made headlines around the world in March when she rushed into a Tripoli hotel and told foreign journalists there that she had been held for two days by pro-Qaddafi militiamen and raped.

She was then dragged away by Libyan government agents.

After several days, she reappeared first in Tunisia and then in Qatar.

Last week, Qatari authorities forced and her parents to board a flight to Libya's rebel-held city of Benghazi.

The UN refugee agency said today Obaidi had arrived in Romania and was taken to a refugee transit center in the western Romanian city of Timisoara.

A UN spokeswoman, Claudia Liute, said Obaidi arrived unaccompanied on a flight from Italy on June 5.
