Masked pro-Russian activist describing today's shooting incident at a makeshift checkpoint manned by pro-Russian separatists near Slovyansk:
"People jumped out of Jeeps and started shooting at us. They threw stun grenades. Our people started running in various directions as somebody shouted 'Down!'. A sniper was shooting those who tried to run into the village. The first who ran was killed by a sniper right away, then there was a second dead. There was another man who wouldn't get up, he was just lying there."

Our news desk has an update on the Slovyansk fire fight. It appears that the details are not as clear-cut as first reported:
Russia's Foreign Ministry says it is "outraged" over a deadly early morning shooting in eastern Ukraine.
The ministry said the attack early this morning on a checkpoint near the eastern Ukrainian town of Slovyansk violated an Easter truce called by Ukrainian authorities and showed that Kyiv does not wish to disarm "nationalists and extremists."
The attack happened at 2 a.m. local time when several vehicles approached a checkpoint and occupants of the vehicles reportedly opened fire on a pro-Russian group manning road stop.
Casualty figures vary with Ukrainian authorities claiming one person was killed and three injured in an exchange of fire.
Russia's Rossia 24 television channel said five people were killed; three people manning the checkpoint and two of the attackers.
Russia's Foreign Ministry blamed the attack on members of Ukraine's ultranationalist "Right Sector," a group Moscow has often blamed for unrest in Ukraine.
