Moldova's parliament speaker Andrian Candu says the legislature will nominate Sergiu Cioclea on March 3 to take on the post of the country’s central bank chief.
Cioclea, a Moldovan citizen who was educated in Paris, is currently a senior manager at the French bank BNP Paribas.
His experience at BNP Paribas has included supervision of corporate and investment banking.
He previously headed the corporate finance department's unit for Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and directed BNP Paribas’s emerging market activities in Central and East Europe.
Cioclea needs 51 votes in the 101-seat parliament to be approved as governor of the Moldovan National Bank.
The previous central bank chief, Dorin Dragutanu, resigned in September amid angry street protests over the disappearance of more than $1 billion from the country's banking system.
Dragutanu denied responsibility for the scandal, saying his resignation was the result of political pressure.
