NATO Says Troops Seize Huge Drug Haul In Afghanistan

NATO says Afghan and foreign troops have seized drugs worth an estimated $350 million in southern Afghanistan.

The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement that troops made the seizure during a raid on a drugs factory in Helmand Province on September 26.

The seizure, which included some 100 kilograms of heroin, was one of the biggest narcotics busts in the country since the decade-old war began.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime says Afghanistan's drug trade funnels an estimated $100 million to $400 million a year to the Taliban through levies on farmers and traffickers.
