The situation remained tense at a border crossing on the Khyber Pass after deadly clashes between Pakistani and Afghan soldiers overnight.
Zarawar Zahid, police chief of Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Province, said on June 13 that one Afghan security officer was killed and six were wounded in the incident at the Torkham Gate crossing.
Zahid said Pakistani forces opened fire after the Afghans asked them to stop construction work at a new gate, which he claimed is located on no-man's land.
However, Pakistani officials said the Afghan side started shooting when construction work began on the new gate, which they say is located on Pakistani territory.
On the Pakistani side, two guards and nine civilians were reported wounded.
Radio Mashaal reported that firing from both sides could be heard in the afternoon of June 13.
Islamabad summoned Afghanistan's charge d'affaires to complain about the violence, the Foreign Ministry said.
Pakistan and Afghanistan share a 2,200-kiliometer disputed border.
