Pakistan’s army said five security personnel were killed by a roadside bomb in the southwest province of Balochistan in an attack claimed by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which was designated a “terrorist” group by the United States in 2019. The Pakistani Army press service said one captain and four soldiers were killed in the December 25 blast. Balochistan borders Afghanistan and has been the scene of an insurgency by the Balochistan Liberation Army and other separatist groups demanding independence from Pakistan since 2004.
