Explosives have been found under the vehicle of a high-profile Pakistani journalist who actively covered the Taliban shooting of a schoolgirl.

The powerful bomb was defused on November 26.

Journalist and television anchor Hamid Mir had been threatened by the Taliban for his coverage of teenage anti-Taliban campaigner Malala Yousafzai.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the October shooting of the 15-year-old, who campaigned in support of girls' education in her home district in northwest Pakistan's Swat Valley.

She was shot in the head and neck and is being treated in a hospital in Britain.

The Pakistani government has offered a reward of $500,000 for information on who was responsible for the attempted murder of Mir.

Earlier this year, the France-based organization Reporters Without Borders ranked Pakistan as the world's most dangerous country for journalists.

Based on reporting by Reuters and AFP

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
