Pakistan Bomb Kills Four, Including Ex-Police Officer

A bombing in Pakistan's port city of Karachi has killed four people, including a former police officer.

Local police officer Nasir Lodhi told RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal that the bomb, which targeted ex-officer Shafiq Tanoli, exploded on the morning of April 24.

Tanoli had survived several previous attempts on his life and was known for his active campaigning against militants.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

A police operation has been under way in Karachi over the past few months targeting criminal groups, religious militants, and armed gangs.

Karachi, Pakistan's commercial capital, has been plagued by Islamist militancy, as well as sectarian, ethnic, and political violence.
