The former chief of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the military's powerful spy agency, Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, has been arrested and had court martial proceedings initiated against him, the military said in a statement on August 12. The statement added that Hameed's arrest was ordered by the Supreme Court in connection with a housing-scheme scandal, and multiple violations of the Pakistan Army Act after his retirement. Hameed served as ISI chief from June 2019 through October 2021. It is the first time in Pakistan's history that court-martial proceedings have been initiated against a former ISI chief.
