The June 26 order is another step toward putting Musharraf on trial for his actions while in office.
In a policy speech to parliament on June 24, Sharif declared that Musharraf "will have to answer for his guilt before the court."
He accused Musharraf of violating the constitution by overthrowing Pakistan's elected government in 1999 and for dismissing judges and imposing emergency rule in 2007.
The retired general, who returned to Pakistan from self-imposed exile in March, is under house arrest.
He is fighting a series of cases dating back to his 1999-2008 rule, which began with him ousting Sharif in a military coup.
