Pakistani officials say 15 militants were killed during a military operation in a volatile tribal area in the country's northwest.

Security officials said the operation, called Khyber II, began on July 19 and continued until early on July 20 in the Kharmatung area, in the Khyber district.

They say two militant hideouts were destroyed during the operation, which also killed four Pakistani Army soldiers.

Khyber is one of seven tribal districts along the Afghan border.
