At least three Pakistani soldiers and as many attackers were killed in a firefight in northwestern Pakistan early on March 30, security sources told RFE/RL.
The attack was claimed by the outlawed Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The attack occurred early in the morning on a Frontier Corps (FC) fort in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Tank district, police official Waqar Ahmad told RFE/RL.
The fire exchange continued for several hours, Ahmad added. Ten soldiers were also wounded in the gun battle.
An intelligence source told RFE/RL that six soldiers were killed and 22 were wounded in the fighting. The reason for the discrepancy between the two tolls was not immediately clear.
In a separate attack in South Waziristan, one army captain and a soldier were killed on March 30. This attack was also claimed by the TTP.
