Pakistani Business Leaders Strike Against Rising Energy Prices

Pakistani business leaders on September 2 went on strike to protest higher fuel and electricity prices and the general rise in the cost of living. The strike, called by the Jamaat-e Islami party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, has spread to other areas and also sparked public protests against the rising costs. Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has said electricity has become more expensive due to rising oil prices and that cabinet officials are working on ways to meet existing challenges in a way that doesn't breach agreements with the IMF.
