Ivan's Story: From America With Love
Two years ago, Russia imposed a ban on adoptions by U.S. citizens. One couple from Arizona, Melanie and Jay Brederik, adopted their son Ivan from Tomsk before the ban came into force. Volunteers had been unable to find a Russian family for the toddler, who was born with only one arm and no legs. Now a thriving first-grader, Ivan wears high-tech prosthetics, plays baseball, and has quickly adapted to life in his American family. (Melani Bachina, RFE/RL)
