Demonstrators rallying against violence and against the government took to the streets on June 30 and blocked highway E-75, a key traffic point near the capital, Belgrade, and in Novi Sad. Similar protests have taken place over recent weeks after two mass killings rocked Serbia in early May. Crowds have demanded the dismissal of the interior minister and heads of other government agencies. Government leaders have said they have taken substantial steps to reduce violence in the country, and pro-government protests have also been held in recent weeks.
