Three Turkmen Border Guards Killed On Northern Afghan Border

Insurgents in Afghanistan's northern province of Faryab, which borders Turkmenistan, have reportedly killed three Turkmen border guards.

Asal Khan, the acting governor of Ghormach district, told RFE/RL on May 27 that the attack on Turkmen border checkpoints had taken place on May 24.

No more details were given.

There has as yet been no official confirmation of the incident by Turkmen officials.

The Taliban has also not commented on the attack.

In March, officials in another northern Afghan province, Baghdis, said Taliban militants had killed at least three Turkmen border guards.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
