There's a festive atmosphere on the streets of Washington despite the weather. In fact, local vendors are cashing in on the big freeze. The swearing in ceremony itself has been moved inside, but the cold has not deterred Trump fans from celebrating his inauguration.

Views From The Streets Of Afghanistan
RFE/RL has been banned in Afghanistan by the country’s Taliban authorities, but we have spoken to people to hear their hopes for the new Trump presidency.
Sara, a resident of Kabul, said: “We urge President Trump to pressure the Taliban to respect social freedoms, democracy, and women’s rights in Afghanistan. This would allow the reopening of educational opportunities for Afghan girls, enabling them to study and live freely like others."
Basharmal, a resident of Nangarhar, said: "We expect the new U.S. president to facilitate a national dialogue leading to an inclusive government."

Iranian State TV Quiet But Social Media Going Big On Inauguration
- By Kian Sharifi
If you’re in Iran and hoping to catch updates on Trump’s inauguration on television, you’re out of luck. It’s not even being reported in the news ticker.
Things are vastly different on the popular messaging app Telegram, where even hardline news agencies that staunchly oppose Trump have been posting video snippets from the inauguration.
They may not like Trump, but there is no denying that the next four years will, one way or another, impact Iran.
Will Trump Help Free Imran Khan?
Supporters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan have long hoped that U.S. President Donald Trump will end his 17-month incarceration.
Yet on January 17, the 72-year-old former cricket superstar-turned politician was sentenced to a 14-year jail term in a graft case.
Islamabad has not figured prominently in Washington since the final U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. There is no indication that the nuclear-armed Muslim nation will turn into a focus of Trump’s second term.
But Khan’s Pakistan Tehrik-e Insaf (PTI) has relentlessly lobbied Trump’s campaign, which prompted Trump allies Richard Grenell and Matt Gaetz to call for his release.

What's Coming Up
- By Luke Allnutt
Now that both President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance have taken their oaths of office at the U.S. Capitol, here is a rough timeline of what's coming up later today. (Apparently, things are running a little behind schedule.)
Now both Trump and Vance will attend a signing-room ceremony and then a luncheon at the U.S. Capitol.
At around 15:30 EST, Trump and his family will watch the inauguration indoor parade at the Capital One Arena.
The evening is devoted to the three inaugural balls --- the Liberty Inaugural Ball, the Commander in Chief Ball, and the Starlight Ball -- all of which Trump is expected to attend and address supporters.
