Turkey Says Warplanes Kill 20 Islamic State Militants

Turkish air strikes killed 20 Islamic State militants in northern Syria, Turkey’s military said on September 11.

A statement by the office of the chief of the general staff said that warplanes struck three buildings believed to belong to Islamic State, as well as a vehicle and a motorcycle on the evening of September 10.

The head of the military also said that Operation Euphrates Shield, the Turkish incursion into Syria to fight Islamic State and Kurdish militia fighters, which was launched 2 1/2 weeks ago, would “continue decisively.”

While Turkish jets have targeted IS targets in Syria, clashes have also broken out between Turkish and Kurdish forces in the area.

A U.S.-Russia agreement on a cease-fire in Syria is supposed to go into effect at sundown local time on September 12, the first day of the Muslim holiday of Eid.
