Turkish Army Says Up To 100 Kurdish Rebels Killed In Northern Iraq

The Turkish Army said military operations against suspected Kurdish rebel bases in northern Iraq killed up to 100 militants.

In a statement, the military said more than 130 targets were struck in six days of air raids.

It said more than 80 rebels were injured.

On August 17, Turkey resumed crossborder strikes against bases of the separatist Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) after a lull of more than a year after PKK rebels killed eight soldiers and a village guard in an attack in southeast Turkey.

The PKK took up arms in Kurdish-majority southeast Turkey in 1984, sparking a conflict in which more than 45,000 died.
