Journalist in Crimea detained on separatism charge:
By RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service
The prosecutor-general for Russian-occupied Crimea says security services are pressing charges against a Crimean journalist for undermining the Russian territorial integrity.
Natalya Poklonskaya said on April 19 that Russia's Federal Security Service was pressing charges against an unidentified journalist, who she said worked for RFE/RL, for reports where he or she "called for the isolation of the peninsula."
After Moscow annexed Crimea from Ukraine in March 2014, the Russian parliament passed a law making it a criminal offense to question Russia's territorial integrity, which also means opposing the occupation.
The punishment for breaking the law is up to five years in jail.
RFE/RL launched its broadcasting to Crimea in three languages -- Ukrainian, Crimean Tatar, and Russian -- shortly after the peninsula's annexation.
Local media reports said on April 19 that police were searching the houses of several journalists across Crimea. (w/AP, TASS)
