President Petro Poroshenko has condemned the leaking of personal information concerning thousands of journalists who have reported from separatist-controlled parts of eastern Ukraine.

Last month, a Kyiv-based website revealed the names and contact information of more than 4,000 journalists, who it said were illegally accredited by Russia-backed separatists.

Poroshenko told a news conference in Kyiv on June 3 that the publication was a "big mistake" and called for an investigation into the leak.

But he also called on journalists not to write "negative articles" about the country and said some Russian reporters from the lists had produced items that were "criminal."

Poroshenko also ruled out elections in rebel-held areas in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions until there is "a mechanism to restore the Ukrainian sovereignty" there.

Fighting between government forces and Russia-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine has killed more than 9,300 people since April 2014.

Poland To Recruit 35,000 For Paramilitary Force To Counter Russia

Poland says it will start recruiting in September for a new 35,000-strong paramilitary force amid tensions with Russia.

Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz said on June 2 that the force's command structure and senior appointments had already been decided.

Priority in deployment will be given to eastern provinces deemed to be the most exposed to Russian pressure.

Comprising civilian volunteers trained in military skills, officials said the force is aimed at countering "hybrid warfare” of the kind that Western officials say Russia used to seize Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula and support separatists in the country's east.

In April, Macierewicz said the new paramilitary force was needed because Poland "is threatened by the actions of our neighbor Russia, which makes no secret of its aggressive intentions.”
