Here's an item from our news desk on the spate of cyberattacks in Ukraine:
Ukraine Banks, Companies Hit By Cyberattacks
The Ukrainian central bank says a number of Ukrainian banks and businesses in the commercial and public sectors have been hit by cyberattacks via an "unknown virus."
"As a result of these cyberattacks, these banks are having difficulties with client services and carrying out banking operations," a June 27 statement said, without naming any of the entities affected.
"The central bank is confident that the banking infrastructure's defense against cyberfraud is properly set up and attempted cyberattacks on banks' IT systems will be neutralized," the statement added.
Ukrainian state power distributor Ukrenergo said its IT system had been hit by a cyberattack on June 27 but that the disruption had “no effect on power supplies.”
However, unconfirmed reports said several local power distributors experience major disruptions due to the cyberattack.
Ukraine has blamed Russia for previous cyberattacks, including one on its power grid in late 2015 that left part of western Ukraine temporarily without electricity.
Relations between Kyiv and Moscow collapsed in 2014 following Russia's illegal annexation of Ukraine's Crimea region and support for separatists in the country's east.
