Kyiv Mayor-elect Vitali Klitschko speaking to journalists today on Independence Square:
"I strongly believe that we must do everything possible to make the city work efficiently, to make our streets passable so that administrative buildings can work too. I am confident that the tents can be moved aside. However, my clear understanding is that traffic on the streets has to be renewed. I am holding negotiations with all representatives of the Maidan in that regard, so we can engage in a dialogue and resolve this problem."

More from our news desk on Klitschko talking to the Maidan:
Kyiv's Mayor-elect Vitali Klitschko has told demonstrators gathered on the city's Independence Square that he will not use force to disperse their protest camp when he takes office.

Media reports say Klitschko addressed a crowd of a few thousand people gathered on Independence Square on June 1.

Three months of Maidan protests drove pro-Russia President Viktor Yanukovych to flee Ukraine in February.

Much of the protest encampment remained even after a pro-Western government took office, with holdout demonstrators calling for the Maidan to continue until the new government implements important reforms.

Klitschko had earlier called on demonstrators to fold their tents and go home.

Ukrainian media reports said the crowd on June 1 booed Klitschko, cheering only when he said an early parliamentary election was needed.

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has given an exclusive interview with the Ren-TV program "The Week."

He tells host Marianna Maksimovska that "men from Chechnya are ready to die and kill to defend the interests of innocent civilians" in Ukraine. In an apparent reference to the number of Chechen troops, Kadyrov said that if 14 Chechens fighting in Ukraine made so much noise, imagine what 74,000 would do.

The interview also provides an intimate view into Kadyrov's life -- and even his kitchen. You can see the interview (in Russian) below beginning at the 22:48 mark:
