UN Strongly Condemns IS Execution Of Chinese, Norwegian Hostages

The U.N. Security Council has condemned the "heinous and cowardly" murder of two hostages from China and Norway by the Sunni extremist group Islamic State (IS).

Islamic State announced in its English-language magazine on November 18 that it had killed a Chinese and a Norwegian captive.

It wasn't clear when the two men had been killed.

"These crimes once again demonstrate the brutality of [IS], which is responsible for thousands of crimes and abuses against people from all faiths, ethnicities and nationalities, and without regard to any basic value of humanity," said a November 19 statement from the Security Council.

The council said the perpetrators should be brought to justice while stressing that IS must be defeated.
