UNITED NATIONS -- The head of the UN Mission in Kosovo has told UN Security Council members that the last three months have seen positive developments in the region, including successful elections in Serbia and Kosovo and steps toward EU membership for Serbia.
Mission head Farid Zarif said, however, that the report also noted negative trends, including security and criminal problems in ethnically mixed areas, including northern Kosovo.
"The status quo is not a stable one," he said.
Zarif spoke at a regular three-month briefing on the situation.
Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said Kosovar Serbs continue to face disproportionate risks to peace and stability, while Kosovo's Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj said that Kosovo was "built on the principles of citizenship and multiethnicity."
