U.S. Senate Approves New Iran Sanctions Bill

The U.S. Senate has approved a package of new economic sanctions on Iran's oil sector.

The sanctions are meant to deny Tehran revenue by shutting down deals with Iran's powerful state oil and tanker enterprises.

The new package would extend sanctions to cover dealings with the National Iranian Oil Company and the National Iranian Tanker Company.

The West suspects Iran is working to build a nuclear bomb, charges Iran has repeatedly denied.

The House of Representatives has already passed its own version of the bill.

Now, the Senate and the House must work out the differences in the legislation.
