The U.S. has warned of a possible Al-Qaeda terrorist attack during August 2013.
Germany and Britain say they are temporarily closing their diplomatic outposts in Yemen – and London is warning British citizens to leave the country – amid fears of an Al-Qaeda terrorist attack there.

The closures on August 4 and 5 come as the United States shuts at least 22 diplomatic posts in 17 Muslim countries on August 4 and, possibly, in the following days.

Washington has issued a global alert about possible Al-Qaeda attacks during August.

It also has warned of potential terrorist attacks on public transportation systems and tourist infrastructure.

U.S. lawmakers say the threat likely involves Al-Qaeda affiliates in Yemen.

The U.S. State Department says attacks are possible "particularly in the Middle East and North Africa, and possibly occurring in or emanating from the Arabian Peninsula."

Based on reporting by The Associated Press, Reuters, AFP, and DPA

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
