The EU said the 6-million-euro ($7.2 million) aid package approved by the European Commission for Chechnya will go towards feeding the republic's most vulnerable citizens and helping restore water.
The money will also be used to educate the population about the risks of landmines, promote primary and vocational education, and provide psychological assistance for people traumatized by war.
The EU today also pledged 2 million euros ($2.4 million) in aid to the victims of conflict in Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia. The funding will go towards food, job creation projects, healthcare, and reconstruction.
