Kazakhs Want Higher Fees For Gas Transit

ASTANA, 18 January 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Kazakhstan wants to increase gas transit fees, RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reports.

The head of the national gas transportation company KazTransGaz, Serik Sultangaliyev, said on 18 January that a delegation is heading to Moscow to discuss the issue with Russia's state controlled gas monopoly Gazprom.

Kazakhstan twice increased its gas transit tariff in 2005, to $1.1 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters of gas per 100 kilometers.

Gazprom has said it had decided to buy nearly 26 billion cubic meters of Central Asian gas this year.
