Major Counterinsurgency Operation Continues In Afghanistan


Afghan soldiers at a checkpoint in Konar Province on April 11 (epa) KABUL, April 13, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Afghan and U.S.-led coalition forces are continuing a major counterinsurgency operation in Afghanistan's eastern Konar Province.


Operation Mountain Lion was launched after a rocket hit a school in Konar's provincial capital, Asadabad, earlier this week.


Seven children were killed and 30 others wounded. At least six militants have been killed in the offensive.
