Security In Baghdad To Be Reinforced

Baghdad under curfew on June 9 (epa) June 13, 2006 -- A top Iraqi official says tens of thousands of security forces will be deployed in Baghdad as part of efforts to improve security in the capital.

Major General Mahdi al-Gharrawi, a commander of Interior Ministry forces, said security measures ordered by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki will come into force early on June 14.

Reports say that at least 40,000 Iraqi and international troops in Baghdad will be involved in the operations.

Al-Maliki has said that the measures will include securing roads to Baghdad, banning civilians from carrying weapons, and a nighttime curfew.
