Montenegro Joins UN


Montenegro's President Filip Vujanovic addresses the UN General Assembly today (epa) June 28, 2006 -- The UN General Assembly today unanimously agreed to accept Montenegro as the UN's 192nd member.


Montenegro declared independence on June 3 after voters chose in a referendum to split from the union with Serbia.


Serbia inherited the UN seat previously held by Serbia and Montenegro. The last country to join the UN was Timor-Leste, or East Timor, four years ago.
